School Improvement Grant (SIG) Cohort 2

The SIG provides funding to help Local Educational Agencies (LEAs) address the needs of schools in improvement, corrective action, and restructuring to improve student achievement. In conjunction with funds reserved under Section 1003(a), SIGs are to be used to leverage change and improve technical assistance under sections 1116 and 1117 of Title I, Part A of the ESEA through LEAs targeting activities towards measurable outcomes as described on this page.

Public Charter Schools Grant Program Planning and Implementation Grant

The federal Public Charter Schools Grant Program (PCSGP) is administered by the Charter Schools Division. Grants are reviewed by peer evaluators and awarded on a quarterly basis to nonprofit entities and local education agencies that are likely to develop and open high-quality charter schools. The primary focus of the PCSGP is to create charter schools that will provide public school choice to students whose assigned traditional public school is chronically low performing. Read more »

2011 California Mathematics and Science Partnership

The California Mathematics and Science Partnership (CaMSP) program seeks to establish Demonstration Centers for up to $250,000 to support currently funded and potential CaMSP applicants. CaMSP will also fund new partnerships for up to $1 million to improve the academic achievement of students in mathematics and science. The focus is to create opportunities for enhanced and ongoing professional development for mathematics teachers (grade three through Algebra 1) and science teachers (grades three through eight). 2011 Educational Opportunity Centers (EOC) Program

The purpose of the EOC Program is to provide information regarding financial and academic assistance available for individuals who desire to pursue a program of postsecondary education; to provide assistance to these individuals in applying for admission to institutions at which a program of postsecondary education is offered, including assistance in preparing necessary applications for use by admissions and financial aid officers; and to improve the financial and economic literacy of participants.

Projects include: academic advice, personal counseling, and career workshops; information on postsecondary education opportunities and student financial assistance; help in completing applications for college admissions, testing, and financial aid; coordination with nearby postsecondary institutions; media activities designed to involve and acquaint the community with higher education opportunities; tutoring; mentoring; education or counseling services designed to improve the financial and economic literacy of students; and programs and activities previously mentioned that are specially designed for students who are limited English proficient, students from groups that are traditionally underrepresented in postsecondary education, students with disabilities, students who are homeless children and youths, students who are in foster care or are aging out of foster care system or other disconnected students.

2011 Carol M. White Physical Education Program

The Carol M. White Physical Education Program provides grants to LEAs and community-based organizations (CBOs) to initiate, expand, or enhance physical education programs, including after-school programs, for students in kindergarten through 12th grade. Grant recipients must implement programs that help students make progress toward meeting state standards.

Funds may be used to provide equipment and support to enable students to participate actively in physical education activities. Funds also may support staff and teacher training and education. Read more »
